About Us
The “Environmental Education & Training for Educators & Students” is a new initiative, designed and implemented by two highly experienced organizations in matters of Applied Scientific Research on Environmental Protection and of Environmental Education for Students and Educators.
The organizations are:
Ι. “Archipelagos” – Institute of Marine Conservation
II. “DIAN” – Training Activities
THE ORGANIZATIONS:
A few words about the Organizations that are active in the “Environmental Education & Training for Educators & Students”
- A) Institute of Marine Conservation – “Archipelagos”
Archipelagos is an NGO that was founded in 1998 and since then has been continuously active in the Eastern Aegean.
The work of the Institute combines:
- Interdisciplinary Scientific Research for the Protection of the Environment (marine & terrestrial) and the Conservation of Biodiversity – Education of pupils, students, and teachers on environmental issues
- Awareness raising and active participation of local communities in actions aimed at protecting the environment and enhancing local natural wealth
Archipelagos has at its disposal:
- 2 main bases on the islands of Lipsi & Samos
- 5 seasonal research stations
- 6 vessels equipped with laboratory and technological equipment designed for marine research
- 4 equipped scientific laboratories in Lipsi and Samos
- Full diving equipment for 20 persons – Underwater cameras, drones, etc.
The scientific staff of Archipelagos is composed of scientists and researchers of various nationalities who work in the field 12 months a year.
Archipelagos is a member of many international bodies, including:
- United Nations Environment Program(UNEP- MAP-RAC/SPA)
- Agreement on the Protection of Cetaceans in the Mediterranean Region (ACCOBAMS)
- International Commission for the Scientific Exploration of the Mediterranean (CIESM)
- Med Sea Alliance
Archipelagos collaborates with universities from all over the world, such as:

- B) “DIAN – Training Activities”
“DIAN – Training Activities” was founded by the educator and author Panos Milios in 1987.
Since 1987, DIAN has participated in many of European Training Projects in the fields of Formal and Non-Formal Education, Vocational Training, and Culture. For the implementation of the projects, it has collaborated with many Educational Organizations at the National, European, and International levels.
DIAN has also developed a series of e-learning educational activities through DIAN GLOBAL EDUCATION (DGE). These activities are offered in Greek and English and include seminars, courses, and online conferences on topics adapted to the current needs of Lifelong Education.
At the same time, DIAN has developed Publishing Activities, To date, it has published more than 80 educational books in Greek and English.
DIAN’s scientific team moderates and monitors the Educational and Publishing activities, and Training Projects, and EU Erasmus+ projects from its’ central offices in the center of Athens.
DIAN is a member of European Organizations, like the European Association of Institutes for Vocational Training (EVBB), EURORESO, and Shadows Network with more than 120 members altogether, from all 27 European countries.
